About Us

The church of Christ in Salem, Illinois is a group of New Testament believers who worship and serve together. We are dedicated to serving God by obeying Him and reaching out to others with His good news. We strive to be united in faith and demonstrate God’s love for one another.

You may be wondering why we refer to ourselves as the church of Christ (with the lower case "c".) It is because Christ established His church in the first century and we strive to be that original church, the church of Christ. We use God's inspired word as our guide book. Therefore, we are neither denominational, Catholic, Protestant, or Jewish, but simply members of the church for which Jesus died.

It is our conviction that only Christ has authority to say what the church is, how it should worship, and what it should teach. The New Testament serves as the only basis for all our teaching and practice. We do not have a national headquarter or church alliance group and we do not have creed books or mission statements. We firmly believe that the Bible "is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so
that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17) It is the Bible alone that allows us to be "equipped for every good work."

We believe that all who follow Christ can be united in Him based upon the pattern given in His word. We invite you to come with an open heart and open Bible, ready to study God’s word.
