Why are there so many churches?

If you have ever asked yourself this question you may have also wondered where they all came from?  We would like to give you the answers.

Before we get to that, it is important to establish that God only wanted there to be one church.  As we take a look at the writings of the apostle Paul, it becomes quite clear that the church established by Christ was supposed to be united as "one body."  As Paul spread the gospel on his missionary journeys, he gave the same message to the Christians in Rome, Corinth, Ephesus, and Colossae.

"For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another."                   --Romans 12:4-5

"For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.  For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit."                      --1 Corinthians 12:12-13

"There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all."                    --Ephesians 4:4-6

"Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.  Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful."                                             --Colossians 3:14-15

This series of three 10-minute videos does an excellent job of explaining why
there are so many churches and where they all came from.  (Click on the picture.)

Be sure to watch all three videos.  You'll be glad that you did!
